Who is eligible to apply for the Angela Johnson Merit Scholarship?
This scholarship is open to all students pursuing a career in the beauty industry who demonstrate leadership, academic excellence, and a commitment to service. Financial need is not required to apply.
What does the scholarship include?
The recipient will receive a $1,500 scholarship that can be applied toward any expense related to their cosmetology career—including tuition, licensing fees, training, tools, or professional development. It also includes access to AJLF’s Rooted in Beauty Mentorship Program and spotlight recognition on AJLF’s platforms.
Can I apply if I’ve already started beauty school?
Yes! Students who are currently enrolled in a cosmetology, esthetics, or nail technology program are welcome to apply, as long as they meet the criteria.
What materials do I need to submit with my application?
Applicants must submit a transcript, one letter of recommendation, a headshot, and responses to all essay questions. A resume and an optional video introduction are encouraged but not required.
How are recipients selected?
Applications are reviewed by the AJLF scholarship committee based on demonstrated leadership, academic performance, service involvement, and alignment with the foundation’s mission. Finalists may be invited for a virtual interview.
